Tonika Beard - Nashville's Steward Leader
CEO/ Founder
Tonika Beard is a native Nashvillian whose life's work has always circled back to one question: how do we help people make a difference in their lives and community?
Her commitment to service began at 15, and in 1990 she was selected as an American Soviet exchange student through the People to People Initiative for Understanding, bridging Russian and American communities through volunteer work and cultural exchange - planting a lifelong belief that service could cross any divide.
A proud alumna of John Overton High School and Tennessee State University, Tonika earned her MBA with honors from the University of Phoenix. Since 2003, she has served in human resources, specializing in benefits administration across industries including Operation Mobilization USA, Porsche Cars North America, and Enterprise Holdings. As her career grew from support roles into team leadership, she became a steward leader, mentoring young professionals, motivating teams, and using her corporate platform to drive employee community involvement, from onsite health and wellness initiatives to youth leadership academies and school revitalization projects.
In 2008, Tonika's family relocated from Nashville to Fayetteville, GA. On holiday visits home, driving through her South Nashville neighborhood, she began noticing homeless veterans asking for food and donations. As the niece of several uncles and aunts who served across military branches, she couldn't reconcile it these men and women had served their country. She made herself a quiet promise: one day, she would do something about it.
Today, over 771,000 people experience homelessness in the USA, including nearly 14,000 unsheltered veterans; and even with 15,000+ transitional housing facilities nationwide, it isn't enough.
That promise became Anchor Bridge Communities, LLC, founded on the belief that stable housing is the foundation for personal transformation. Anchor Bridge operates as a transitional housing agency serving Nashville and surrounding counties, providing structured, non-clinical independent living for vulnerable populations, including unsheltered veterans, through partnerships with government, social service agencies, and the community.
For Tonika Beard, the mission is simple: whether managing benefits for thousands of employees or opening the door to
a veteran's first stable night's sleep in months, her work has always been about helping people believe a better future is possible.
